Our 'field'
This picture is of the 'field' between our driveway and the east side of the house. It's a decent size and over the next year or so we are going to prep this area to be pasture for the horses.
This year all we did is cover it with the huge pile of detritus that used to live underneath where our house is currently sitting, and seed it. In May my mom brought me a grocery bag full of annual rye seed, and one rainy evening I strewed it around by hand like Johnny Appleseed. After a week or so there was just a patchy green fuzz. Then the fuzz got bigger and stronger and more and more of it grew, and now looks quite nice in places. Still there are piles of construction materials lying around, but if you look at it at just the right angle (like the photo above), you can see how nice the field is going to look.
