All Trimmed and looking good!

No this post is not about Kirby. He is looking good, but definitely not trimmed. I put this picture here because (for once) he is completely still, except for his happily wagging tail. Awh. :)

Here is what I am talking about! Look at that trim on the bottom of the railing, and the bottom of the big wall. Doesn't that look good? :) Erick has been happily putting up trim all over the place all week. And when he was done, he put up some christmas decorations and then started putting up trim around the doors upstairs. Here is the view from the kitchen: Looking downstairs from the balcony...

This is the most recent picture I have. It's coming along fairly quickly, and I like how it's turning out. :)

Railing up - 100% safer if not finished

Well the railing is now structurally complete, although we still have some work to do to finish it. We'll be doing lots of sanding, and either some varnishing, or some staining, yet to be decided. We also need to finish the stairs themselves, as they are still the plywood ones that have been there for over a year now (crazy!)

Doesn't the railing look nice? Our massive black stovepipe doesn't look nearly so massive or black with a backdrop like this! We went with exterior deck railing because it was black, kind of cool looking, and 'economical'. Much cheaper than wrought iron!

Painting in the new house!

This weekend I dug out my pastels, a small easel, and some paper, from a variety of boxes. For the first time ever, I am painting in the new house and so far it's awesome. At the moment I'm set up on the kitchen table (because the studio upstairs isn't ready yet), but it's very nice to be able to paint while watching TV and still feeling like I'm a part of the action. Here are some in progress shots of the painting I'm working on. So far so good! :)

Stairs, meet your new railing

This week Erick has started constructing the railing for the stairs and landing. It's going to be rugged! The uprights are 3 x 6 hemlock and are very firmly attached.

You also may notice that we have our wood for the winter. You can't get much more conveniently located wood storage than that! We also have some walls upstairs! Although they've been there since May/June, I believe this is the first appearence they've made on my blog. I suppose they're deserving of their own post though, so I'll leave it at that for now. :)

New house pictures

After a very long time not posting any new pictures, here are the latest.
