Another spotlight challenge

Fruit Salad in the making, soft pastel, 8 x 10 inches, $115 unframed
Here is another small painting I did as a challenge from the wetcanvas forum. This was done as a part of the same underpainting challenge as the previous painting. As an artist, doing exercises like this is the equivalent of lifting weights for an athlete. This exercises our skills, lets us focus on our strengths, and improve our weaknesses. It's practice that is an essential step in being able to produce great paintings for customers. :)

Experimentation with Technique: underpainting

Tennessee Tree, 6 x 9 inches, $85 unframed

In this painting, I was conducting an experiment in a technique called underpainting. I covered the paper with an underpainting of this same scene in completely different colours from the final version to add excitement and interest. Can you tell what colours I used? You can still see it peeking through. The underpainting of the sky was orange, the field was magenta, and the trees were purple. I am quite pleased with the final result.

A dog named Sue

This is Sue, a lovely hunting dog that belongs to a friend of ours. Sue is the perfect dog. She only barks once, is friendly without being pushy, and is extremely obedient. The only time she's not obedient is when she knows her master puts her in the crate in the back of the truck, and continues hunting without her. Then she will, come hell or high water, find a way out of that crate, and then find her master. Who should know better than to go hunting without her, really!
